Friends member Doug Wallace came to the meeting today armed with a clipping from the Kansas State Record, December 3, 1859:
The Cemetery
The people of Topeka will doubtless be pleased to learn that arrangements here finally have been completed for opening a new Cemetery on the prairie one mile east of town. The Cemetery is on land owned by Dr. Crane, south side of the Shunganunga, is high and dry, and is laid off in a tasty and appropriate style.
It is proposed to put a stone wall around the whole to afford protection from prairie fires, &c., and expense will not be spared to make this a beautiful ground and place of resort.--Lots may be selected by calling on Dr. Crane. (pictured below)
